In the past few years, TRA-Kyoto’s infamous Rocket Bunny brand of body kits have been swelling various cars to obscene widths in a deliberately provocative way. The same company owns Pandem, and so the outrageousness of this Chevrolet Corvette C8 body kit available through the company’s U.S. website is completely up the same alley.
The man behind TRA-Kyoto (and its various brands) is Kei Miura, and he’s a legend who made an international splash with his FR-S/BRZ/86 widebody kit. Since then, he’s brought the same sort of idiosyncratic styling tropes to a number of different vehicles, including a Ford F-150 Raptor. Pandem’s U.S. site sells wide-body kits for vehicles as diverse as the A90 Toyota Supra to the Nissan Titan, with some old-school classics like the S13 Nissan 240SX and AE86 Toyota Corolla in there for good measure. The C8 is the only car from an ostensibly American brand on the list currently, and it’s the sort of brash choice you’d expect from a guy like Miura.
The kit has several components and starts at $5,800 if you don’t opt for the wild rear wing. The full kit is $7,000. And yes, “Pandem” does sound a bit like pandemic (in fact, that’s where Miura got the name), but this was well before the coronavirus pandemic hit, and is just a coincidence. That said, maybe this Pandem C8 is just the thing we need right now to get our minds off it.
