Calls for Russia to release Evan Gershkovich fall on deaf ears

Europen March 29 Evan Gershkovich, Reporter wall street journal, disappeared during a reporting trip to Yekaterinburg, Russia’s fourth-largest city. The next day, Russian security services revealed that they had arrested him on espionage charges. Mr. Gershkovich, a US citizen, is fully entitled to report from Russia, and this does not appear to be any different. The newspaper said it was deeply concerned for his safety.Despite calls from President Joe Biden, U.S. Secretary-General NATO Neither governments nor newspapers in many other countries around the world have contacted Mr. Gershkovich, a talented journalist who loves Russia. It is Russia’s first arrest of a Western journalist on espionage charges since the end of the Cold War and will further sour relations between Russia and the United States. The Kremlin may intend to use Mr Gershkovich as a bargaining chip to secure the release of Russians imprisoned in the US or Europe, but that has not yet been confirmed.
