In Manitoba, multiple lives have been claimed after a semi truck crashed into a vehicle carrying an elderly man
Fifteen people have been confirmed dead and 10 injured when a bus carrying senior citizens was struck by a semi-trailer truck in Canada, police said Thursday.
The incident happened at the intersection of two major roads near the city of Carberry, Manitoba, in the central part of the country.
According to Rob Hill, Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Manitoba, the bus was carrying about 25 people, mostly seniors from Dauphin and the surrounding area. They were heading to the casino when the accident happened, he said.
RCMP Superintendent Rob Larsen said initial investigations found the bus was hit by a truck while crossing the road. Both drivers were alive and hospitalized, he said.
“The answers will take some time, but I can assure you that the RCMP will have the answers,” he said. Larsen told reporters.
Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson offered condolences to the victims and their families. “My heart is broken to hear the news of the tragic accident near Carberry,” Stephenson tweeted.
