Clubs broadcast ‘God Save the King’ at Premier League request but know crowds won’t respond well

Liverpool fans have long had a habit of booing during the national anthem, which experts attribute to the city’s left-wing political leanings, large Irish population and general distaste for the establishment. In a statement ahead of the game, Liverpool FC said that like all other clubs playing Saturday, the Premier League asked Liverpool to play the national anthem before kick-off in honor of the “Historic Moment” The coronation of King Charles III.
“Of course, how those at Anfield on Saturday commemorate the occasion is a personal choice and we know some supporters have strong views on it,” he said. The statement concluded.

Thousands of supporters and dozens of foreign dignitaries gathered in London for the coronation on Saturday, while hundreds of anti-monarchy protesters rallied in Trafalgar Square.At least seven of these protesters have been charged with planning “Public nuisance”, Police confiscated hundreds of placards and banners.
