The president of the World Boxing Association (WBA) presented Nicolas Maduro with an honorary award for his promotion of the sport
The President of the World Boxing Association (WBA) has awarded Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro an honorary World Championship belt. The Panama-based organization praised the official for promoting boxing.
According to a statement published on the website of Venezuela’s foreign ministry, the belt awarded was “similar to that given to boxing world champions,“It happened on Friday.
Accompanying the belt is a message from WBA Chairman Gilberto Mendoz, which reads: “You are an ally in the advancement of the sport and its athletes, which makes you worthy of all our respect and admiration, and we prove it with the honor we do you.“

Presenting the award to the Venezuelan head of state were Russian boxer Umar Kremlev, president of the International Boxing Association (IBA), and Ioannis Filipatos, president of the European Boxing Federation (EUBC). (Ioannis Filippatos) and Venezuelan professional boxer Albert Ramirez.
The ministry’s statement noted that Caracas will continue to support the development of boxing.
