Kissinger with Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya’s founding father, on a whirlwind tour of Africa in 1976. Over two weeks in April, Kissinger visited six countries and met Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere, Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda, Zaire President Mobutu Se Se Seko, William Tolbert of Liberia and Léopold Senghor of Senegal. Despite the visits, critics say Kissinger is more interested in, and sympathetic to, southern Africa’s white minority.
